State military museum

Museum of the Kansas National Guard

The museum maintains a dedicated Medal of Honor recipient research section naming eight recipients who served in the Kansas National Guard. Those curated biographies make it a particularly useful destination for connecting recipient profiles to Kansas Guard service without implying that every recipient has an original Medal or physical artifact on display.

Historical context

About this institution

The Museum of the Kansas National Guard preserves the service history of Kansas citizen-soldiers from the territorial era through modern operations. Its research and interpretation extend beyond equipment displays into biographies, unit history, archival material, and a Hall of Fame that connects individual service stories to the development of the Kansas Guard.

Why it matters to Medal of Honor research

The eight-recipient research corpus gives the Archive a clean, evidence-backed bridge between individual Medal of Honor pages and a state National Guard museum. It is especially valuable for Erwin Bleckley, Frederick Funston, and Donald Ballard, whose stories span very different eras of Kansas military service.
